The Historic Stone Home is carefully maintained, in keeping with the charm of its rehabilitations and restorations for almost a century by the Stone Family. It is a majestic place that transcends its time, adorned by beautiful mature trees and a tidal creek. It was built in 1893, three years after the founding of its neighbor Georgia Industrial College, now Savannah State University. In 1933, Percy Stone purchased this homestead in anticipation of rooting his family and expanding his innovative legacy in agriculture. Harriet and Percy were avid supporters and faculty of Savannah State University and of greater institutional and educational advancement. The historic home and boating causeways are located on what was the Placentia Plantation, once worked by the Stone’s enslaved ancestors. Today, the home is deemed eligible and nominated to become registered on the list of National Historic Places for the contributions of Percy Stone, Harriet Peeler Stone, Monroe N. Work, Alma Stone Williams, and the entire Stone Family.
